Speeding up the system

As with any computer system, WinMAGI appreciates someĀ  general housekeeping to keep it fit and healthy. There are a number of things that can be done to improve the general performance of your WinMAGI system, such as regularly re-indexing your data files, archiving your old data, ensuring that you close out the completed purchase orders and manufacturing orders and keeping your WinMAGI system updated to the most recent build. There can also be computer network issues that can be addressed to improve the flow of data around your network.

Re-indexing your WInMAGI files ensures that your data files are kept in the best possible condition and will remove any records marked as deleted. It can also ensure that your files sizes are kept at their optimum size.

Archiving your old data (see Decembers Newsletter for more details) will mean that the data you are dealing with in the lookups will be more relevant and therefore more readily accessible.

Upgrades are constantly being made to WinMAGI to improve the data access times for both the screen enquiries and the reports. Being on the more recent versions of WinMAGI will certainly help you get around the system.

Network speeds can be a vital issue. As any user will tell you, there is nothing more frustrating than a slow, unresponsive network. Any software installed on a poor network will simply reflect that poor network. Therefore, ensuring that your network is running well is important. There are a number of things that can be done to help with network performance, such as not overloading the server where the WinMAGI data files exist, increasing the speed of your network switches, making sure that your anti virus software is NOT scanning through the WinMAGI data files and ensuring that you server is up to spec.
